This past weekend I attended BSides Tampa. This was a very well put together event. The only thing that bugs me is that there was so much going on at the same time it was hard to decide what to do! For this BSides event I decided I wanted to dedicate all my time to the CTF. I missed out on the talks, and lockpick village but I heard good things from others who attended them. Everyone met in the open area in the center of South University to get their badges and shirts. There were a few vendor tables set up here too. Great shirts and badges guys! I brought a few extra locks for the Lockpick Village... The CTF This CTF was awesome. It was one of the most unique, and probably the best I have participated in. My CTF team Ragnarok had a blast hacking away all day and ended up finishing in a very close 2nd place right behind USF's Whitehatters Computer Security Club. To start out, they handed out plastic gun safes with standard Master Locks on them. In order to move on to the rest of the CTF we were tasked with picking the locks on these and retrieving a USB drive locked inside. Luckily, I had my lockpick kit with me and was able to pick this lock in about 10 seconds. I thought this was an awesome addition to a CTF. Physical security is very important. The main CTF was mostly jeopardy style. It had a mix of forensics, network packet capture analysis, and phone phreaking. All in all it was a lot of fun, and I look forward to next year's Tampa BSides CTF. |
